Former DeKalb police Lt. Willie Daren Durrett was arraigned Monday for allegedly taking bribes from a small business owner, forcing a delay in the trial of co-defendant Donald Frank. Court filings, meanwhile, show Frank’s attorneys are hoping a jury never hears the name of Frank’s former boss, ex-DeKalb CEO Vernon Jones.
Now this is wacky. Former DeKalb County police chief Terrell Bolton, who alleges DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis was just out to get him when Ellis fired him last year, now claims a gaggle of motorcyclists targeted him this week on a Dallas, Texas, tollway. One biker struck and damaged his rear-view mirror, Bolton said, while the driver of a nearby pickup truck made an offensive hand gesture.
The feds Wednesday arraigned a former DeKalb County police detective and her husband for allegedly passing counterfeit $100 and $50 bills at the Macy’s at Perimeter Mall. Lawana Clinton, 39, and husband Jason each face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Clinton was a detective at the time of the incident.
DeKalb County Commissioner Sharon Barnes Sutton says identity theft might be the cause of her recent troubles over bad checks in Gwinnett County. But signatures on the four bounced checks look quite similar to Sutton’s signature on campaign disclosure documents on file at the Georgia secretary of state’s office. See for yourself …
