(Updated July 26, 2012 with another $2 million in donations) Advocates promoting the “Untie Atlanta” campaign for a transportation sales tax have raised nearly $6 million, topped by donations from real estate interests and highway contractors, newly released disclosures show. Four of the top six cash donors — the National Association of Realtors, the Georgia Highway Contractors Association, heavy equipment suppliers Yancey Brothers Co. and C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. Inc. — kicked in $981,000 among them.

Bank: Candidate Tom Graves trying to evade $2.25M debt

A North Georgia bank is accusing congressional candidate Tom Graves of attempted fraud for trying to escape a $2.25 million debt. The complaint, filed last week by Bartow County Bank, alleges Graves transferred his home and adjoining properties worth $657,000 into a trust last year to protect it from the debt. For that, the bank would like punitive damages.

DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis appointed Bobbie Kennedy Sanford and Isaac Blythers to the county’s board of ethics on Wednesday, giving the long-neglected panel enough members to actually have a quorum and do its business. Chairwoman Teri Lee Thompson had been complaining for more than a year that the board could not function unless it got some new appointees. “It’s like we exist, but not really,” she said.
