Deal, Ralston, Oxendine probes in limbo as top ethics staffers depart

Ethics probes involving Gov. Nathan Deal, House Speaker David Ralston and former Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine are in limbo today as the attorneys conducting those investigations look for new jobs. Stacey Kalberman and Sherilyn Streicker, the top two staffers at the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission, learned last week they must clean out their desks by June 30.

With the help of the Washington-based Club for Growth, hundreds of non-Georgians are bankrolling Graves’ run for the U.S. House, while the American Dental Association has stepped up for his opponent. Those groups have funneled more than $400,000 into the 9th District, raising the question: Why should a voter from Minnesota or Texas have anything to say about who North Georgia sends to Congress? Judge reprimanded for cussing out GBI agents, prosecutors

A North Georgia judge today acknowledged trying to intimidate prosecutors who were investigating another judge in her circuit for alleged election fraud. Lookout Mountain Superior Court Judge Kristina Cook Connelly Graham received a public reprimand in court today for two unrelated incidents in 2008 and 2009. The reprimand said Graham had admitted her actions.
