Court upholds firing of DeKalb police chief

DeKalb County acted properly in firing police chief Terrell Bolton for insubordination and improper use of county vehicles, a Superior Court judge has ruled. Even if it hadn’t, Judge Robert J. Castellani ruled Thursday, Bolton took too long to respond to a motion to dismiss his appeal.

Chris Mathis, the elected chief magistrate of Floyd County, today queued up in the lengthening line of Georgia judges who have resigned while under investigation for misconduct. He reportedly stepped down after meeting with Richard Hyde, investigator for the state Judicial Qualifications Commission.

Ex-Polk County deputy gets 21 months in prison for beating inmate

A federal judge today sentenced a former Polk County deputy sheriff to nearly two years in prison for beating an inmate in a restraint chair. Ex-Sgt. Joshua David Lowe, 25, will serve 1 year and nine months in prison for the beating, described by a witness as unjustified and “horrible.” Read the news release …
