Fed prosecutors: Toss S. Ga. judge's guilty plea

Thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court, a south Georgia judge soon will no longer be a convicted felon. In court filings, federal prosecutors say a 2010 ruling by the high court leaves no choice but to vacate a 2009 guilty plea by former Alapaha Circuit Superior Court Judge Brooks E. Blitch III.

Ponzi schemes: McDonough lawyer to prison, Hoschton broker pleads guilty

Federal prosecutors announced action in two unrelated Ponzi schemes this afternoon: Former McDonough attorney Steven H. Ballard, 53, was sent to prison for five-plus years for a scam that netted more than $1 million, and former Hoschton mortgage broker Edward William Farley, 47, pleaded guilty to fraud charges involving more than 150 victims and $20 million in losses.
