Sterling Bethea, the executive director of the DeKalb County Housing Authority, resigned Tuesday as federal investigators continued to pore over the agency’s financial records. “He just decided that he wanted to move on,” board member George Maddox said, “and to be honest with you we didn’t have a problem with it.”

A former New Orleans police officer is under investigation for shooting Henry Glover outside an Algiers strip mall four days after Hurricane Katrina, the first act in a bizarre chain of events that has led to a massive federal probe into the city’s Police Department. Over the past year, the U.S. Department of Justice has interviewed scores of officers in an effort to determine how the 31-year-old Glover died, as well as whether officers may have tried to cover up his death.

Federal investigators looked into charges of substandard care and possibly preventable deaths at the Atlanta VA Medical Center, according to a recent report, but could not substantiate the allegations. Investigators confirmed some of the alleged incidents, the report said, but could not establish that poor medical care was a factor.
