Former Telfair County Sheriff Jimmie W. Williamson will serve three years in federal prison for misusing county funds, following sentencing on June 30. In his plea agreement, Williamson acknowledged he had embezzled court fines and bonds, accepted bribes from defendants to reduce or dismiss charges, and accepted bribes from inmates in exchange for special privileges at the county jail. The former sheriff also acknowledged making payments on his all-terrain vehicle with checks drawn from his office’s inmate account fund.
